Boron Rubbers India is a pioneer company
manufacturing rubber sheets and allied
products for nuclear radiation shielding. The
company now enters into production of various
types of ferromagnetic fluids also known as
Ferro fluids. The technical advisors of the
company are internationally recognized experts
in the field of magnetic fluids and have led
several research projects covering scientific
and engineering aspects of this wonderful
material. They have also carried out
consultancy projects assigned by
internationally well known company and
national agencies. Under these they have
prepared certain special types of fluids for
certain specific application. They are members
of committees involved with magnetic fluids
and have published a large number of original
research papers.
Magnetic fluids and other composite fluids
(e.g. magnetorheological suspensions ferro
emulsion etc.) are produced under their
supervision in the company's laboratory and
are tested in the Bhavnagar University as well
as other well known testing laboratories of
the state.
The company can supply stable water,
hydrocarbon as well as diester based magnetic
fluids. The company can also take projects on
non-ferrous material separation, rotary shaft
and exclusion seals (e.g. computer disk drive
protection), viscous dampers, switches etc.
The company can also take project to prepare
special types of fluids such as temperature
sensitive fluids, biocompatible fluids,
magnetorheological fluids etc.
The company can supply experimental kit
containing different types of fluids,
compounds and assembly to carry out different
experiments with the fascinating fluid. These
kits are useful to school, under graduate and
postgraduate students of science and
engineering disciplines.
When myriad of ultra microscopic dipolar
permanent magnets are colloidally dispersed in
any nonmagnetic liquid matrix such as water or
oil, a magnetic fluid is formed. Or in other
wards, magnetic fluid is a stable colloidal
dispersion of ferri / ferro magnetic particles
of nano size in liquid carrier. It is
stabilized either by coating hydrocarbon chain
or providing an electrostatic charge on the
particles. It is known as surfacted or ionic
magnetic fluid. The number density of magnetic
particles in a magnetic fluid can reach up to
1023 particles/m3.
Under normal condition & absence of external
magnetic field, magnetic fluid becomes
thermodynamically unstable. Hence magnetic
dipole moment of each particle is randomly
oriented and there is no resultant moment
observed. So under normal condition & absence
of external magnetic field, magnetic fluid
behaves just like an ordinary fluid.
When magnetic fluid is placed under the
influence of an external magnetic field, the
dipole moment of each particle tends to align
in the direction of an external magnetic
field. So there is a large magnetic moment
induced inside the medium. Therefore the fluid
has net resultant magnetization. So under the
influence of external magnetic field, the
fluid exhibit several apparently looking like
magical phenomena like defying gravity,
levitation of non-magnetic object immersed in
the fluid, spontaneous formation of spike,
self levitation of magnets (in absence of
other externally applied magnetic field. When
it subjected to an external magnetic field, it
exhibits large magnetization and when the
field removed, the magnetic fluid
instantaneously attains its zero magnetic
state.
